About

I am a professional writer and teacher.

Abra J. Espitia Gist is a writer, teacher, and multimodal creative born and raised in Texas. She holds her MFA in Creative Writing/Poetry from Texas State University. Her poems, short stories, and songs are cross-genre, multilingual pieces that explore both this world and the ancient worlds of her Mexican Indigenous ancestors. She loves to write about the complexity of identity and the wandering journey of exploring the multidimensional self. She draws much of her inspiration from the years she spent in West Texas with her grandma, a curandera, or traditional native healer.

Her works can be found in the Houston Chronicle, Porter House Review, Windward Review, RED INK Journal, and Pour Vida Zine, among others. She loves exploring the outdoors and nature, practicing and teaching yoga, raising her two sweet pups, and being a closeted bedroom musician.
